How has
Sojourn changed
your idea of what church is?
I was
seeking to worship with fellow believers in an environment that avoided
the all too typical “Christianese” hype. I wanted to avoid the
club-house Christian environment where everything was overly corporate,
sterile or denominational in character. I also wanted to avoid the
other extreme where childish, emotionally incontinent excesses existed,
or following a personality-cult where some silver-tongued word-smith
controlled the minds of the gullible masses. I sought and found
something that was more sound, spiritual, biblical, thoughtful, deep
and mature; something that more reflected the spirit of the embryonic
Christian church. I found something more contemplative; challenging me
to seek a more real relationship with God within a group setting. The
inspirational worship music greatly contributes to these elements.
What books interest you?
I am more of a topical reader than a fan of a
particular title or author. I’m pretty much absorbed on the non-fiction
side of literature such as scientific publications, particularly in the
fields of geology, paleontology, and astronomy.
History in general, and particularly ancient history also tweak my
interest. Christian theology, biblical studies, archeology and
classical Western philosophy however remain as my core interests.
What is "intercessory prayer"?
We are not islands and we often need prayers of
faith to help one another in our life-struggles. I meet with faithful
prayer-warriors weekly to make intercession on behalf of those
requesting such. If you seek intercessory prayer, whether for yourself
or others, you are invited to make such requests by emailing me at john@sojourn-cny.com where
confidentiality
is assured by me and my prayer team. You may also select to omit your
name or just state a first name to ease any concerns regarding
confidentiality.
In humility and in
Christ’s service,
John Stone
